Fowlmere Parish Council Vacancies
Fowlmere Parish Council have presently got
two vacancies and they are looking for local people, with an interest in the village to become councillors. With a small village like Fowlmere, the role is very varied and there is never a dull moment!
Regular items on the agenda are
planning issues (the PC have to look and comment on all planning applications in the village), the
precept (currently £25,000 of council tax money which comes to Fowlmere for things like grass-cutting, street lighting, village maintenance, playground equipment etc), the
Cemetery (the PC manage the cemetery in Fowlmere and keep it in good order),
low-cost housing (the PC is supportive of a low-cost housing option being discussed for Fowlmere) and
County Council matters (where the local County Councillor keeps us up to date of the ‘bigger picture’ in South Cambridgeshire).
Other topical issues currently under discussion include:
- the trees in Fowlmere Moat (the PC recently achieved a grant to have a survey undertaken to determine the national significance of some of the trees and there is maintenance work to be done within the moat area)
- the Village Hall
- the provision of some additional swings for the Butts play area
- A scoping study for a proposal for a windfarm in Heydon
- reporting on pot-holes
- the bus shelter project (in conjunction with Fowlmere School children who are making tiles to go in the inside of it)
The PC meet once a month on the 3rd Tuesday and roles and responsibilities are shared among councillors but the Council does have a Clerk who deals with the administrative side of things and the day-to-day correspondence etc. Councillors are needed to take decisions concerning the future of the village, so if this is something you think will interest you, that you think you can add something to, please contact the Clerk (Jackie Wright) for further information.
